Community Foundation for Western Iowa, formerly Pottawattamie County Community Foundation, works with local nonprofit organizations and government entities by providing agency endowment funds and grant opportunities. The Community Foundation also helps match donors with nonprofit organizations that closely meet their philanthropic giving needs.

Since 2007, the community foundation and its investors have granted a total of $9 million to organizations making impact in our region.


The Southwest Iowa Mental Health & Substance Abuse Fund application is open June 15 through July 15. Grants ranging from $500 to $2,500 per organization are available for projects in one (or more) of the following three focus areas:

  • Education

  • Raising Awareness

  • Providing Learning and Development Opportunities for area service providers.

Nonprofit organizations in the following Iowa counties are eligible to apply for funding: Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby.
