PCCF Community Grant Supports Avoca’s Holidays on Main
The City of Avoca is gearing up for its fifth annual Holidays on Main event. Earlier this year, the city was awarded a $1,000 community grant from the Pottawattamie County Community Foundation to assist with county-wide promotion of the annual event.
“The Holidays on Main event is a wonderful way for our southwest Iowa communities to celebrate the holiday season and enjoy all the wonder and excitement of this festive time of year,” said Donna Dostal president and CEO of the Pottwawttamie County Community Foundation (PCCF). “Our focus is to build community and help connect those who want to have the most impact to compelling projects that enhance our lives in southwest Iowa.” Dostal added, “Congratulations to Avoca, Holidays on Main for five years of success and building a strong and vibrant community!”
Held in conjunction with Small Business Saturday, Avoca’s annual Holidays on Main event is scheduled from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 24th. This year’s event is a Snowman Party theme, some unique aspects of this year’s event include Santa, a snowman beach ball toss, dancing snowman costume, and an 18ft tall inflatable snowman!
Serena Riesgaard, Director of the Avoca Public Library and a member of the planning committee for the Holidays on Main event. Riesgaard added, “Families look forward to this event in downtown Avoca to kick off the holidays! An animal petting zoo staring a camel, live Nativity with singing, and our very popular Loess Hills Country Cloggers! Don’t miss it!”
